2002 Minnesota Westfield Junior PGA Championship
|
The Minnesota Section of the PGA along with the other 40 sections of the PGA of America conduct section qualifying for the National Westfield Junior PGA Championship. Juniors who reside in the Minnesota Section and were 17 years of age and under through the final round of the National Westfield Junior PGA Championship, July 20th, were eligible to participate in the Minnesota Westfield Junior PGA Championship. Juniors ages 13-17 were required to attempt to qualify at one of seven sites for the Minnesota Westfield Junior PGA Championship. Listed are the facilities who hosted a Minnesota Westfield Junior PGA Qualifier along with the juniors who earned the right to go onto the 2002 Minnesota Westfield Junior PGA Championship, held July 1st and July 2nd at Olympic Hills GC and Bent Creek GC.

2002 Minnesota Westfield Junior PGA Championship

Eighty juniors qualified for the 2002 Minnesota Westfield Junior PGA Championship. This two-day, 36-hole championship took place July 1st at Olympic Hills GC, and July 2nd at Bent Creek GC. Listed are the top results from each age division from the 2002 Minnesota Westfield Junior PGA Championship. Lauren Huhnerkoch of Burnsville, MN was the overall girls' champion, posting a thirty-six hole total of 158. The overall boys' champion was determined after one playoff hole, with Luke Gaskins of Minneapolis, MN defeating Patrick Herzog. By winning the overall title in the girls' and boys' divisions, Lauren and Luke qualified for the National Westfield Junior PGA Championship, where they represented the Minnesota Section. This took place at the Westfield Group Country Club in Westfield Center, Ohio, July 17-20. Lauren shot 77-77-76-76-306 to tie for 22nd place. Luke finished with scores of 72-74-76-75-297, tying for 23rd place overall. Congratulations Lauren and Luke!
